An innovative new device could bring solar polar and clean water to millions, providing vital resources for those who need it most.
These days, it feels like our news is filled with impending doom and disaster. But, at Koala Chess Art, we are happy to be bringing you a little ray of sunshine to brighten up your day.
Our Triceratops is dancing to celebrate some good news for once
Researchers from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia have created a device which is not only a source of green energy (sadly much needed in our modern world) but can also offer another option for purifying water. This is great for communities which do not have the abundance of electricity required for the more mainstream methods of obtaining clean drinking water.
Unfortunately, the number of people who make up these communities numbers approximately 780 million.
Prof Peng Wang, a co-author of the research, has found that individuals in these more impoverished lands can spend a collective 200m hours a day fetching water from far away sources.
What these lands typically have in common, however, is their sunlight. So, if a device could take this resource that they have plenty of and use it to generate one in which they are lacking, that would be a pretty good result, wouldn’t it?
The answer - yes, yes it would. Having clean water readily available means better crop yields, cleaner facilities and, most importantly, healthier local populations. Which, here at Koala Chess Art, we are always happy to hear.
