How do koalas draw? 🤔🤔

In this blog we will look at how we produce our sketches like the one below.

Dog hiding bone

Stage one: the idea 💡

This is a pretty simple story its a dog burying his bone. He is looking over shoulder to check no one is looking. No one wants a pilfering pooch to nick their stuff! 😞🐶

Stage two: the outline ✏

In this stage we work out the basic composition of the image. Its  black and white so we start with a white background. We always start with grey for the outline and add black or white for the shadings 🖍.

Stage three: the face 😀

We then start to build up the details on the nose 👃 and lightly blend them. The eye's out line has also been sketched in. The rough angle of the ears 👂 is taking shape ✍.

Stage four: soft blending 💆

As you can see above the image has yet to be blended. We want to give the impression that the fur is soft and has indervidual strands 🐕. We have also begun work on the eyes. Eventually we want our dog looking over his shoulder so we need to position  his pupils to reflect this 👀.

Stage five: the body outline ✏🐕

We begin here to shape the dogs body. Its going to be sitting and the position of the front paw will be changed but for now its on the ground 🐾.

Stage six: adding detail to the body 🤓🐕

At this stage we add the various patches of white to the body and begin to blend them. Again we use a light blending tool which gives a much softer look. ☺

Stage seven: finishing details 🐾🐕✏

You can now see we have moved the front paw, it looks like the dog is lying down so we will alter it again before finishing. We also add greater detail to the coat. We have also added some highlights in white to his face. All that is left is to draw the bone and hole 🕳.

Stage eight: the finish 😀😀
